Colonial Mexico

Oh yes, it is finally vacation time for Ms. Lisette Fee!!!

I'm very excited and ready to travel and explore a new place. I'm traveling with fellow metalsmith student, Laritza Garcia to visit our friend and also metalsmith and ECU alumni Jesse Bert.

We're planning a tour de art/metals in Southern Mexico; Taxco (famed for it's excellent crafted silver), Santa Clara del Cobre (famed for large chased/repoussed copper) and then San Miguel de Allende where Jesse resides to work in his studio.

It'll be such a great experience to see the work of traditional metalsmithery in Mexico and be inspired to make new work when I return.

Beautiful church in Taxco.

Look at all that silver!!! Only in Taxco, Mexico

I won't be posting for about 10 or so days, after my trip to Mexico I'll be back in G-Vegas for 2 days and then it's off to DC/VA for the Trifecta Trunk Show...no rest for the weary they say.

Hope you're having a great summer too!

trunk show goodies and trinkets

These are among the last projects I finished this week for the Trifecta trunk show before I leave for Mexico. It's been a busy, busy month but also the most productive for me.

Last night I finished these lovely cuttlefish cast black coral earrings. And then I decided to finally do something with the spray painted seashells I collected at Wrightsville beach. These will be good gifts for my friends when I visit them during the trunk show.

Used my Montana gold spray paint on the seashells
and on my name cards.

Thank you for reading and hope you like my new goodies!

Song of the Day: Let's Take a Walk by Raphael Saadiq

Oh sooooo groovy and sexy.

When I first heard Raphael I couldn't believe I hadn't heard him before...alas, I had, he was a member of the 90's group Tony! Toni! Tone!

So if you want to hear more good music like this, check me out this morning from 9am-12pm on WZMB 91.3 radio. I'm on the air every Tuesday and Thursday.

And if you already tune into me, thank you! And thank you for visiting my blog.

I'm telling myself this whenever I get down or worried about making ends meet.

I'll be a bit MIA for next week or so, focusing on the trunk show. I'll be posting the postcard image soon tho...it's going to be quite awesome.

A ring I finished the other day. As usual, I'm in love with it and made it to fit my fingers...I can't help it when I want to wear what I make!

Provocative jewelry

Kali Arulpragasam (London based jewelry designer) really knows how to stir emotions and ideas with her jewelry. Kali's Autumn 2011 jewelry line from Super Fertile "Murder" references gunshot and scar wounds from the casualties of war. Kali uses rubies and other precious gemstones with gold. These jewels are beautifully subversive and grisly in the way they're displayed on the body. Kali truly uses jewelry to make a powerful and thoughtful statement on the victims of war and the scars we carry.

I love the neckpieces and rings. I discovered her jewelry via Refiner29.

Cool-factor, Kali is sister to super bad-ass musician M.I.A. (aka Maya Arulpragasam).

Thanks for poppin' by and hope you had a great weekend!

Just a bit overwhelmed

For the next two weeks, I will be busting my ass in the studio to produce work for the trunk show in August with Sarah West and Tara Locklear.

I'm trying not to freak out, panic and just flip out in general...it's scary but really exciting and that's what I'm focusing on, the exciting part. We're doing three trunk shows in the VA/DC metro area and a pop-up graffiti art show. It's going to be very bad-ass and all out sick.

I'll be posting details soon; we're getting fancy postcards designed by ECU art student, Timothy Weaver.

For now I give you some spray painted seashells I collected at Wrightsville Beach last weekend. I have some natural looking ones, but I thought, why not play with my new Montana Gold spray paint (yes I broke down and bought several!).

Listen Up!

To me this morning on the rad-io, WZMB 91.3! I'll be DJing now from 9am-12pm; an extra hour of juiciness. And don't forget we livestream so you can listen to me from your laptop or anyplace with a wireless connection.

Of course, I have to give you a video of one of my favorite bands, The Gossip with "Listen Up!" - Beth Ditto has such sassiness.

Enjoy!

new items in my Etsy Shop

Sideview of sterling silver deer antler ring.\

Even on a 3 day weekend I'm working my butt off and not having much of a social life. But I don't mind, as of late, I've been voraciously producing work that makes me feel so great about my career.

Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

Spray it on

This afternoon I checked out Uptown Art Supply & Gallerie's event hosting Montana Gold spray paint demo.

It was quite enjoyable, I've never really been into street and graffiti art but once I began using the sprays...I couldn't stop! The gorilla and lady profile stencils were especially cool and fun.
One of the artist's working on a mural.

Above are Claire Edwards, Aileen Devlin, and Meagan Leigh enjoying the hot summer sun!

Fellow Panamanian, Mario Paredes havin' some fun!

My lady profile stencils and 'spider' black spray paint.
These are going to be great greeting cards.

Love the gorilla stencils.

Going to the event got me thinking about adding more color to my display cards and work...hmm...good inspiration.
